I'm looking to do a little pulling with my 70 this summer and was wondering what you guys would recommend to do to gain some cheap and easy power. I'm not going to spend alot on it now just looking to see what it will do and go from there. I plan to get the electronic ignition for it hotter plugs and good tune up. Maybe shave the head? Or what else can be done to that continental? Thanks

Shave as much off the head as you can. The 70s are geared pretty high for pulling. I put a fresh motor in mine and it will power out if you put enough weight on it to keep traction. We took as much weight of as we could to pull in the 3500pound class. The engine is also nearly obsolete. I had a good machine shop and we were able to build new valves for it. I run 13.6 tire might have better luck with 12.4.

Some one put a 15.5 tire on Mine. I got the idea that someone tried to pull mine in the past. It runs reasonably strong and theres some angle iron stuck on it in a few places along with the big tires and pressed wheels on the back. I know it won't be a winner but i have $700 in it and it's on the ugly side. I don't have it in me to cut up a nice 77 or 770 to make a puller since i still use them on the farm.

Turn the engine speed up to at least 1800-2000. Use 1st gear. Open up the exhaust; I would build a pipe to replace the muffler and make an adapter to open the rear exhaust outlet and connect the pipe to the adapter, single 2 1/4 inch outlet pipe. Hate to see dual pipes on the 70.

I've had the best luck wit. The hotter plugs in all of my other tractors. Seem to run and perform better to me.

Thanks for your advice. Dual pipes on this one wouldn't hurt your feelings. This tractor as been molested so much over the years that really can't do anything to make it worse.
