Cockshutt 40 Starter

Are there any other tractors that use the same starter motor as a Cockshutt 40 gas? I'm in need of one..

Yes a Cockshutt 50, now that I am done being smart, Irv probably has one if you are missing one.

I believe the armature is the same as a Massey 44 and some Case tractors if that helps per the Autolite book.

Actually the armature is also the same as the Cockshutt 30, but not the drive as it turns the other way on the 30.

A 262 allis combine should work

Is it a Delco or Autolite I've seen both on 40's.

Actually I put a 262 Allis combine engine in my 40...The F
Gleaner combine starter wont work as the snouts way too
long...I also have a starter from a 230 Buda that was on an
A2 Gleaner combine and it wont fit..

Today I borrowed the starter off my E-4 Coop and put it on
my 40 Cockshutt..It easily starts the 230 Buda but would
barely crank over the 262....I heard the 262 run before I
bought it and I can roll the motor over by hand.

Hi,

The original starter is an AUTO-LITE MAX-4078

The Starter from a Gleaner combine or a Allis Chalmers tractor will not work!

Some have told me that an Oliver 77/88 Delco gas starter will fit???? Perhaps others can comment on this application.

Massey 44 gas starter will bolt right up and work but terminals are in a different place.
