Front end loader and power steering for 1972 Oliver 550

I have a 1972 Oliver 550. I have had it several years and have gotten a lot of work out of it – brush cutting, landscaping, hauling round bales, dragging trees up to the house, moving root balls etc.

However, there is one thing I deeply regret: that is that I did not get something with a front end loader. There have been plenty of times that I wish desperately that I had a front end loader for various tasks around here! Even now I have a major project that needs a front end loader.

So here's what I'm wondering: have any of you guys had any experience with a front in loader on an Oliver 550 or the like?

I have found places online selling aftermarket inloaders but of course there are thousands of dollars. I'd like to find a used one that would fit it if I can. Do any of you guys know where to get a front end loader that would fit the Oliver 550 – a used one I mean?

Also, besides the hydraulic for the three point, my 1972 Oliver 550 also has a couple auxiliary hydraulic hoses for accessories so I assume that is where the front end loader hydraulic would connect? Also, I'm not sure how these would attach to this old tractor. Is there some location on the tractor that receives the front end loader to be attached or does custom work have to be done in the Way of drilling and welding etc. in order to make it work?

Another thing, my tractor does not have power steering and I'm sure that is something I would want if I was hauling hundreds of pounds out in front of me. I should be able to get an aftermarket power steering set up for this tractor, correct? Do you know if setting power steering up on these is fairly straightforward and do you know if they work well or have any common issues?

Thanks for whatever help and advice you can give me on these questions!

If you live in Il. or close,I know a guy that has an Oliver loader that he took off a 550 and wants to sell it. Send me an email and I will give you his ph#.

Let us know where you are- I have one I'd sell, but I'm in Washington, which is off the beaten path for most on here.

Loader would be pretty slow if using the tractor auxiliary hydraulics. Mine has a front pump, which is much better.

I don't know where you are located, but there is one listed on craigs list here in central ohio, not me, but it is listed

I just bought a Super 55 that has an Oliver loader on it I plan on taking off and getting rid of. Good shape and cheap. Email if interested. I'm in eastern Iowa.

southwest Missouri. Having that pump in the location you mentioned, does that mean it also has hydraulic tilting the bucket as opposed to drop away trip bucket?

hi Ken. I lived in south eastern Iowa for several years of my life: Oskaloosa, Eddyville, Knoxville, and Colfax.
what town are you in and if it's a small town where is it in relation to the nearest large town or city?

does your end loader have the old trip lever drop away bucket? Or does it have a bucket that tilts back and forth with hydraulics?
do you know what you want for it? Are you able to send any photos to [email protected]?
does it need any repairs?

Yes, it does have a hydraulic bucket. Its a Freeman 100, step-through type (not a "pipe loader" that you have to crawl over, like the N Fords).

Where exactly are you at in Eastern Iowa?

Hi Ken: Since it has a hydraulic bucket and since it is a step through, I as interested in talking to you more about it -- especially since you mentioned "good condition and cheap."

Could you call me at your convenience to talk further? Here is my home number: 417-491-4612 Or if you have a house phone for me to call to save you the long distance, I am sure willing to do that instead. Your choice.
