Guess I shouldn't work on Sunday but I did and blew a hole on tractor .so now I have to change what's left .The manual says type a fluid or 10 weight oil I have been using 30 as its the only non detergent I can find.
I can see using type a as it is more slippery and the benefits of hydraulic oil and even engine oil .
I was wondering what do other people use.

I just use non foaming hydraulic oil in my stuff. Just warm it up good when it real cold. At work, they went to some cheap hydraulic oil that was thicker then the regular, blew a lot of lines.

Any good grade hydraulic oil is fine. I use the Hytran/Hyguard type just to simplify things so that I only have to have one type of hyd oil around.

You did not say what model tractor. I used to work with a hydraulic engineer and he always said when I started to get away from those 30 year old recommendations. He said a good 10W -30 motor oil was far superior to non detergent oil because of the additives in motor oil and he said if you use that in the engine you have one less oil to keep in supply on the farm.

I seen one your earlier post and it got me wondering about using 15 40 and as you said it's one less to keep around.i have a 65 1550 it does light to moderate work and will have a loader. Also in one post I seen oliver had an additive to put in your hydraulic oil that's why I was thinking about using engine oil. I'm waiting to hear some horror stories .

I use the UTF 303 fluid you can buy at O'Reilly's or Orscheln's in my Oliver tractor and for that matter all my tractor and had no problems yet
