have tested out paint from several place like tractor supply ect. , cant find good Oliver green , tractor supplys brand looks like vomit , its no where near oliver green , and some others ive tryed are just about the same , down right ugly , does anyone know where to get paint thats worthy ,without getting it mixed at a auto supplier for 200 a gal. , i know this is a crime but im about to use TSC ,deere green its the closest to true oliver green ive found and atual matchs well to my 1855 's original paint , please help i dont want anything related to john deere near me or my tractor

Don't know what type of hardware stores etc you have in your area, but here there is a store called Builders, or Builders Warehouse, and they sell quart cans of Oliver paint. I'll see if I can find a brand name or part number for the paint. I think they also sell aerosol cans.

A friend of mine used to put 2 coats of Deere green on first and then cover it with good mixed Oliver green. Gives good coverage and cost is less.

I use Martin senour from napa. Theirs is not perfect, but it's pretty close compared to some original things I had to compare against. There were several (3?) oliver greens, it seems the generic paints are in between all three. I think Martin senour gives a choice of hart parr green, medium green, and meadow green. I am sure ppg or DuPont do the same. Agco is a close match as well, but it is not as durable as the automotive paints.

Which Oliver green are you looking for? Early or later? I used TSC paint on my 1365 and it's right, but that's not the right color for the pre 1951 tractors.

if you can find it, I've painted 2 tractors with van sickle paint. It isn't as good as Agco, but I quit using Agco after our local dealer closed and it got so expensive. My local van sickle dealer closed too, but I finished my last tractor by buying some on Amazon and from hardware and tools on the Internet. A few pointers though, don't use their clear coat as it will never survive a gasoline spill and use their hardener.

I think the color is pretty close and it has held up well, other than the clear coat problem.

They will mix clover white too if you order it at your store.

Hope this helps.

I use the ppg#'s. If you use the omni version it is cheaper and still great paint I used it on my 990, looks great. I will also use it in my 2150 and 1650 when I restore them. Here's a picture of what it will look like. Larry

This is what I do as well -- saves alot of bucks, use Rustoleum JD Green for first a coat on most parts (except outer side sheet metal areas), then a final coat of PPG 926052 green (for meadow green) and 46536 for the clover white (they call it heather green).

I went with Martin Senour - Meadow Green 3751 urethane paint. Painted last summer. I would have probably went with PPG urethane, but my painting buddy insisted on using MS. I was very impressed with how easy it was to use and it went on very nice. I do like Larry's photo though as the green appears just a bit darker.

thanks for all the replys , TSC used to have good matching paint but switch brands now its way to dark , ive heard van sickle paint covers very well too , niebor painted a 430 deere with it & looks great , covered old paint nicely , i think if the price is right ill try out agco paint , takes me over an hr drive to get there but maybe worth the trip , im painting a 1975 - 1855 diesel , heres another question , i have power side wheels w/ bolt on duals , are the power slides silver like IH & the bolt on rims clover white ?

The Van Sickle I got from Theisen's seemed to match up pretty well, but I was only touching up the cast iron (block and tub a little), no sheet metal. Probably would have it mixed if I were to paint the sheet metal.
