Next to a DB 990 that I recently bought from Canada
mvphoto16792.jpg

According to serial number records I have on DB's, it was built in Nov/Dec 1963 which means it was one of the last 600's.

Cant wait to get this one and my early 500G restored!

Some people have all the luck. I know of one that ended up back in England. I got some parts a few weeks ago from the guy who bought it in Georgia and had it shipped back there.
It wouldn't take much to be one of the last ones would it,since there were so few anyway. They about had to have all been built pretty close together I would think.

I have had 4 or 5 tractors shipped from up north down here to Texas with little to no trouble but this past experience was a huge pain. The original guy I hired turned out to be a guy who just sub contracted it another guy. Long story short it took over a month and I had to deal with tons of phone calls and emails. I was going to say that I could not imagine how much trouble it would be to ship a vehicle over-seas but after this last experience, it couldnt be much worse.

That 990 DB has me scratching my head a little. From what I've read, the 990's had a longer hood than the 600's because the batteries were in front of the radiator on the 990's. Those two tractors look the same.

My 990 is 1964 model and it has the battery up front. I think all 990 implematics had the battery up front. It was the 850's and 950's that were shorter with no room for it in the front if I am not mistaken.

Hi Randy, 1962 and 1963 990s have the short bonnet and the batteries each side of the seat, I have a 1962 990. Got a friend of mine who has the largest collection of David Brown tractors in the UK and he has 2 Olliver 500 tractors. MJ

Update:

So the previous owner said that the starter was bad but it turned out to be a mouse problem. We pulled the starter and it tested fine. Thought it might have been a broken valve when we realized flywheel could be turned backwards with a pry-bar but would always stop at same point of up stroke. Once we pulled the manifold and found it full of seeds and droppings, the mystery was solved.

This is why you should not leave you tractor stored in a barn with no muffler. The no.2 and no.3 cylinders as well as the entire exhaust manifold were full of seeds.

Rear fenders are rusted pretty bad so they will be replaced.

Here are the hoods from the 500 and 600 side by side. The decals on the 600 have fine print that say "printed in USA"

Would the 600 and 500 use the same grill emblem? Looking into reproducing them if it can be done and what the cost for the finished product would be.

Jim, do you mean the grill or badge/emblem? In either case they would be the same for both models. My plan for the badges is to simply have a decal with the oliver symbol made and apply it over david brown badge. As for the grill, we are currently having a sheet metal shop cut and bend some strips that we can fit into the proper crossed pattern. Will post pics soon.

Question: Has anyone ever seen other 600's with 28" rear wheels? The ones on mine appear to be the originals but I expected it to have 30" rears like the 990's. I'm thinking of switching them out for 30's since I think they would look better, but wouldn't want to take away from the originality if all 600's were supposed to have 28's.

Dale
It is the emblem that I'm looking into getting reproduced. Grill screen is made by a man in Ohio. The info that I have on the 600's they could be ordered with power steering and 14.00 x 30 oversized rear tires. Still looking into decals for it.
More questions e-mail should be linked.
