oliver 520 baler movement problems

I got to messing around with this baler today trying to turn the fly wheel it is hard to but everything moves as it should including knotters. could this be on the tracks that the plunger rides? is it possible that it just needs to greased up good and used some or should I look else where ?

When I got the NH 271 baler I have every thing moved hard. I just oiled the heck out of the chains and greased it up extra good including the plunger slides and every thing freed up and I have used it almost every year since. You will probably need to sharpen up the twine knifes but that is not hard to do

Not real likely since it if was out of time the only time it would cause it to be extra hard would be when the knotter is tripped and then the plunger stop should pop up and stop the plunger from breaking the needles. Dy chains are very hard to make move and some times the fact they do not flex like they should make things super hard to move. On this 271 NH I have one chain was so bad that the slip clutch would slip before the chain would move very far till I had pour a lot of ATF on the chains which is what I used to free thing up before going to a chain lube type oil

If your 520 Oliver is the same as my 620 Oliver,
the plunger has several sealed roller bearings that
roll against wear strips in the chamber. Sounds
like you need to remove your plunger out the back
of the chamber and replace the bearings. Most of
the rollers are bolted to adjusters on the plunger
to adjust everything to proper clearances.

If the baler has sit for some time I would say that there is rust built up under the adjustable plunger rails inside the baler. Take a hammer and knock the crap out of the under side of the frame under the rails to knock the rust loose. I think you will find that the baler rolls over a lot easer after doing this. You may have to readjust the rails when your done to keep the plunger in tolerance. Bandit
