looking at buying a 1550 propane ..no power steering good rubber 3pt utility..he says it runs well with good rubber..in $4000.00 range just to brushog and such with..opinions..i read where this machine weighs in at 6500 to 8000..is this correct?..certainly no lightweight when hauling...power seems low for the weight also... any advice welcomed..this would be to replace a tractor that does the job fine now I just kinda like olivers..thanks in advance

weight is probably around 7500 depending on if it has weights & water in tires , it will be a good load on a 10,000 gross trailer with a diesel truck pulling it , and i wouldnt want to scale it at a DOT check thats for sure , there about 50 HP, in my opinion under powered but still a great tractor , if it has hydra power or hydraul shift make sure it is working good ,you may be able to find a 1650 for the same price and get more power , 1550 on propane would make a nice collectors peice thow

I have 3 1550's and love all 3 of them. 1 gas NF 1 diesel WF and 1 diesel Utility. Now I have seen people say its a utility tractor and its not. Hears how to tell the difference between a Row Crop a Standard/ Wheatland and a Utility.

A Row Crop will be NF or adjustable WF or adjustable swept back WF, 15" or 16" front tires 3pt pto hydrolices and PS rear tires were 13.6x38 14.9x38 15.5x38 some had 16.9x34.

A Standard will be a solid non adjustable front axel 18" front tires 18.4x30 rear tires No Hydra Power has hydrolics no 3pt and may or may not have a pto has a swinging draw bar and most were manual steering.

A Wheatland will have a solid front axel 16" or 18" front tires 16.9x30 or 18.4x30 rear tires 3pt pto hydrolices PS with or without Hydra Power.

A Utility will have adjustable swept back axel PS 3pt hydrolices Hydra Power pto 15" or 16" front tires and 14.9x28 16.9x28 or 18.4x28 rear tires and the rear fenders sit lower than all the others. The transmission in the utility is a high speed transmission so it is geared different than the others.

With all that said, The easiest way to tell them apart is like this. Row crop 34" or 38" rear rubber. A Wheatland/Standard 30" rear rubber and a Utility will have 28" rear rubber. You don't find many 1550's for sale because people that have them don't sell them to often because there so handy to use. They have plenty of power and have enough weight to use the power they have. My RC diesel pulls 4x16" plows with no problems and a 14' disc. I am very happy with my 3 1550 and if I didn't I wound not have 3 of them.

If its a propane utility $4000 ish is not a bad price as there were not many made and maybe less than the diesel utilities. I hope this helps you ID what the tractor is and to let you know they are good tractors. Bandit PS this is my utility.

Was propane offered from the factory, or was it an aftermarket kit. I do not remember seeing any literature with propane option back then.
