1800 Diesel Preheat

never ran a 1800 myself but lots of other models , 1655 1855 1650 , everyone i ran had a botton on dash for preheat , but again never ran any of the straight hunderd series tractors , if it has a push botton on the dash somewhere try that

Mine never worked, had a plug in the manifold that I unscrewed and gave her a small sniff of either. I may still have an owners manual laying around. post back if you need 1. If I can find it and If I remember I'll ck this site on Tuesday. All you would pay was the cost shipping it.

Should be a silver push-button on upper left side of the dash. Don't know if the key has to be on but I always turn it on first. You should be able to hear it click when you first hit the button if it's working. Depending on how cold it is, hold it for 30-40 seconds, crank it a few seconds. If it doesn't start, repeat again. You need good batteries. Don't use any ether with the preheater, but I'm sure you know that. Duane

I had an 1800 checkerboard Diesel. There was a starter switch similar to the starter switch that was used to start an 88 gas before they put solenoid key switch starter. I don't think you need to turn on key as the switch was wired direct to the heat coil on the intake manifold. It is hard on the batteries and do not use ether and the manifold heater together. The manifold heater was wired only to one 6 volt battery. The best way to start diesel is to check the water jacket hose, there is a 110 Volt elect heater that will warm the block. Not sure they were standard on all diesels but worked well.

I have a Checker board and use the intake preheat when it get's cold the 283 has a prechamber head so NEVER use either unless you want to replace parts, it can stretch the head bolts or worse
