Head gasket 310 diesel???

I have a spare head gasket i bought for another Cockshutt 1855 with the 310 diesel i own that has been laying on my shelf for near 20 years, i figured on using it on the 310 diesel out of a 1855 I bought last year that i'm rebuilding but i just found out that the stupid gasket won't fit. :roll:
The cyl sleeve fire ring protrusion is 4 5/16" OD.
The gasket has (laying loose in the gasket) alluminium fire rings with an 4 1/4" ID
The gasket is a Victor with # 3809 and # 22160 L stamped on the gasket.
I thought all 310's where the same, gas and diesel but maybe they are not and this gasket is actually for a gas job.?

Am i right or what is the deal here??
 
The only 310 gasket I can remember with loose fire rings for a 310 engine was (is) the head gasket for the 310 B & C series diesels. I can check my Victor book tomorrow. Also the head gasket for an 1855 and a 1950T/1955 are not always the same either. The coolant holes in the back are different+ the dowel pins are in different locations.

he gasket in question seems to fit correct in every way but the smaller ID sizing of the fire rings.
 
Well i managed to get a fitting head gasket,...took 14 days to get but that's better than never, it was also $44 cheaper than the one i have but can't use
I also needed 1 exhaust gasket cause i still had 5 on the shelf but they sell them only in bags of 10...x $1.68 a piece.
What's up with that??.... there's only six needed on a 6 cyl
