Hey Randy,

Saw your 1850 in the Oliver Collector mag yesterday. Neat picture.

Everytime the 1850 is written about they always say the mechanical 4wd wasn't availible as an add on. The M4WD Had to be ordered from the factory. I know for a fact that at least one 1850 was fitted with the M4WD at the dealer level because my fathers dealership did one. Would have been somewhere between 1967 and 1970. It was alot of work to do it, but it was done at least once. I am beginning to wonder if that tractor might be one of a kind. Wish I knew what happened to that tractor.

I barely got that picture in under the wire. I was past the deadline but Kevin worked it in. I haven't got my new issue yet to see it.

We added a FWD to a 1955 after a few years use. The tractor was sold by us new with the 4wd pinion installed at the factory when the tractor was originally built. The MFWD is driven off the front of the rear pinion shaft.

See Jon's post below You could order one with a pinion shaft for FWA if you wanted to add it later. We had one of those too, but they never added it.

This tractor did not have the darn pinion shaft, if I remember correctly. I do remember we had to go into the transmission. Looking back on it, it more than likely would have been just as cheap to take his tractor in trade and sell him a factory 4wd, but this customer did not want to go that way. He wasn't about the trade "his" 1850, period!

We never did do another conversion either. Alaways kept a 4wd or two in stock anyway and simply traded with the customers for their 2wd.

We'll see how things turn out in the next issue. Kevin asked me to do something for that one. That's all I'm saying. You'll all have to wait right along with me to see it.

Geez,now I'm even impressed. lol
I just got my issue. I thought it was in the letters section not the feature.

You could tell if the 1850 had a spline for 4wd drop box by the size of the cover over the bottom transmission or pinion shaft. The 2wd drive looks smaller. The 4wd cover or housing is unmistakenly larger. Around there were a few 1850s that came with the fromt spline.
Congratulations to Randy on his 1850. I was wondering where you got the fasteners for 1850 sheet metal trim?
