oliver 500 decals

Just putting on the final touches on the 500.Got the decals for it but to me they don't look right from any pictures that I have or seen.Does anybody have a clear picture of a original set? Thanks for your help

How about he picture in the parts book when the tractor was new? Remember there are differences in the early 500 tractors and the later ones. Need a serial number here!

Which version do you have? The early ones were the Checkerboard decals. I got a new set of this style from Dumont's this past summer. The later ones were more of a block lettering. I don't have a picture of those.

The picture's not the greatest since the outer paper is still on it,but here's one of my new Checkerboard decals. Mine's a 1962.

Here are before and after pics of the 500 (1961) and a picture of the first 500 coming off the assembly line in England.
I think the background behind the Oliver name should be silver not white and what's silver should be white. That would make the white stripe down the side of the hood wider which I believe is right. Also the number 500 should be solid white.
Thanks for your info

I like the picture. Somewhere I had a picture of the first model 500 tractors leaving the factory in the UK. They are on flat cars being pulled by a steam locomotive yet in 1960. Are you a David Brown collector? I see the 1212 hood. Where are you located? hat is the serial number of your 500?

Here's a link to a story about the restoration of one. The decals look the same as yours and mine. In the black and white picture that you posted,it almost looks like they put a long white decal over the checkerboard decal. It looks like a sliver of silver above the white stripe.
500 Oliver story

The picture of the tractor was taken at a friends shop who happens to be also a David Brown collector. Had a problem with the three point hitch not going up all the way to engage the lock up slid pin. Had to put a new pump in and thought maybe I didn't put it back together right but found another problem.
Serial # of the tractor is 100558D and I'm located in mid-western Ontario Canada.
Thanks

Thanks for the picture. I think the 500 decal for the early models would be along the same design as the early 1800/1900 decals that go on the side of the hood. When I go to the HPOCA winter get-together next month (weather permiting). I'd like to chat with the Dumont's about this and get their views on the decal. If your going to make the decals why not do it right or as close as you can. The decals on my 500 I trimmed off the silver border all the way around and off the white stripe as well.

Here is a zoomed in scan of an original brochure. Not sure if it helps since the brochure was black and white but it does appear to match what you were saying Jim about the hatching behind the oliver letters being silver and the strip along the bottom and block around the oliver symbol being white.

Is your "friend" Elmer Landman? I was chatting with him a few days ago on a David Brown page about him having one in his shop at the time. It looks like you did a great job! I just found a 500 gas model that I plan on restoring.

Yes your right Elmer lives about 15-20 minutes from me and we both belong to a local heritage club. Elmer has helped me out on this project. If I can be of help to you in your project in any way send me a e-mail or get a hold thru YT forum as I check it often. Good luck hope you don't find as many problems on yours as I did on mine

What is your email? For the most part it should be a fairly simple rebuild. Previous owner said it ran but knocked which is why he pulled it apart. Then he gave up on it when the going got tuff. Engine wont be a problem to rebuild. Will need to rebuild/replace the clutch. Sheet metal will require some work at least the hood is salvageable. My problem will be the hydraulics. I have my eye on a DB 990 selectamatic for sale in canada and if I have to pay to have it shipped I might as well may sure I get a full load with whatever parts machines I can get my hands on.

So, I have been spending some time looking into this as I have a 500G and now a 600 I want to fully restore. It seems there might have been more than two versions of decals for these machines. Of course the type in the photo of the first 500 leaving the factory, and now two other types.

Here is a pic of the 600 I bought:

Which seems to be the same as the ones on this machine:

I have also recently come across this photo of sales brochures for a 500 and 600:

Seems weird that a tractor that so few were produced ended up with so many different decals, I would be willing to bet the ones on the brochures were just made up and that maybe the actual one put on the tractor were different. Either that or the guy putting the decals on at the factory decided to do it his own way.

Here are a few photos I found on the net of what appear to be original decals from the early 500's.

This is what I found under the coats of paint as I was sanding on mine:

I am planning on having a decal shop make some replicas with the white strip instead of the chrome since I think it will look better with the white wheels and grill.
