I pulled hydrapower to replace sprag clutch. when
i got it apart found one collar that centers gear
to shaft had worn serverly and alowed gear to
walk. sprag looks good.would this cause it to slip
in low.i have new sprag and overhaul kit.i dont
want use sprag if i dont have to. this was rebuilt
2700 hours ago.
 
Yes, If the washers on the sides of the gear the sprag runs in wear it will cause it not shift from high to low sometimes. There were some changes to those washers over the years. I know the sprag is expensive but if it has been running with the gear walking sideways on it I would still change it and it will be reliable for a long time. We had an 1850 do that and the washer had a groove cut in it that looked like it was factory cut but over the years the snap ring had cut the groove in it. It shifted great for about the first year after a new sprag and then it would stop when you down shifted if you pushed in the clutch it would take off in low and never slip. New washer another sprag and worked great for the last five years and we plant about 600 acres a year with it so it does get used.
