Oliver 1550 with 770 engine PTO speed dilemma

I've got a 1550 that I am restoring; it has a 770 diesel engine in it. With the 770 engine rated @ 1750 RPM I think I'll be about 100 RPM shy of the necessary 540 RPM at the PTO. Question is, should I just turn the engine speed up on the injector pump, or re-gear it with 1000 RPM parts and run the engine at 1190 RPM? I don't plan on any full horsepower PTO work.

First of all, does your 1550 have a single speed PTO or is it a dual speed unit? If it is a single speed unit with a dry clutch I would get two gears from a 770 and you will be good to go. Gears from an 1600 or 880 will do the same thing.

Thanks for the reply John. I've been through the parts books and I have my 'shopping list'. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your help.
