Awhile back I posted about an 88 for sale. I went and looked at it today. Where is the serial number at? This tractor doesn't have any hydraulics, is this something that can be added later? It has a cultivator lift but I don't know if it works because there wasn't any rod or such to activate it. Other than that it is complete with all panels, lights, fenders etc. original paint. Good tin work.

Folks can correct me if I'm wrong, but serial number plate for an 88 should be on the right side of the dash below the instruments (in front of gear shift lever).

I would think you should be able to drop in a hydraulic unit in place of the mechanical lift.

Look 2 places: If it an older 88 the serial number is attached to the transmission case up high on the right side. In 1952 the location changed to that on the dash, but on the left side, not on the right as was mentioned. In 1960 when I started working for the Oliver dealer a popular shop job was to remove the power lift or the blank plate and install a hydraulic unit

I don't think they just "drop in," at least on ours we had to cut off the end of the input shaft so the pump would fit down inside the transmission.

foot pedal on right side to activate the cultivator lift
to change over you pull the pto shaft out and cut the input shaft shorter this is covered in the service manual. then drop the hydraulic unit in and replace the pto shaft
