2-85 pinion carrier

Hi guys, first post here... I've learned a lot from reading here - finally signed up. Had a 2-105 years ago and currently own a pair of 4-210s.
Went to look at a 2-85 and have a question. Found from reading the archives here that some of these had a 2 pinion differential carrier instead of the 4 pinion as in the 2-105. The one I'm looking at is a '79 model - grey stripe, has headlights in the grill and air intake above the hood.
So, how much of an issue is the 2 pinion carrier? Were they known to fail? Did many get upgraded?

edit: title should have been 2-85 differential carrier not pinion carrier

Can not help much, but on the Oliver 1850s they used a 4 pinion assembly. Never had any trouble. I do not understand why they used a 2 pinion in some 2-85s. It would concern me if I was buying the tractor. Unless somebody has a better idea, I think you would have to loosen up the pto housing and look inside. It does not seem to be a serial number break that would help. Maybe somebody else knows a little more about it.
