I can't get the PTO clutch shaft out. The screws are out of the bearing retainer and the clutch is off. The shaft has about 1/16 end play and turns slightly with pliers but will not pull out. What should I look for?

I never took the clutch off. I would use a 3 foot wrecking bar and put the nail pulling end against the clutch and give it a sharp jerk. Of course we had one one time we had to attach a come-along to and tie the other end to a tractor with the brakes.

I thought it would just slide out with a good tug. I used a pry bar but didn't want to overdo it. Could the shaft be splines be worn in the hyd pump gear and cause it to hang up? There is some damage to the clutch splines.
