1855 rear axle from housing removal

Restoring this tractor, was hoping to remove the axles to make the housing lighter to haul to the paint booth. The axle housings are removed from the rear main frame. I followed the repair procedure. This thing ain't budging. Is there a trick to it? Should I just let well enough alone and cart the complete thing to the paint booth?

Thanks.

You have the Bull gear off the axle? And the cap off the outer end? Once you do that, you will most likely need a press or heavy puller to push the axle outward.

Is the inner bearing loose on the axle? That is the only thing I can think of. If it is tight, might have to make up something to push axle out of bearing. They can fit pretty tight a lot of times.

Yea it's tight. Bearings look and feel good. So I guess I'm just gonna have to eat my wheaties the day we move to the paint shop

For future reference, when bearings are fitted on a machine, the rotating part is almost always the tighter fit. So in your case, the axle rotates, so the inner race is a tight fit.
For a wheel hub, where the outer race rotates, the bearing cup is a tight fit in the wheel hub.

If I remember right you took the little forcing screw that was in Oliver 18-1900 tool kit and used it to pop the race loose while the axle housings were still attached to the tractor. You will need a helper and some guide pins to reassemble everything. My 2 cents worth. J.
