Got the 1655 D engine put in my 1600 Utility. Only unforseen problem was a water pump replacement. The engine runs great when it runs, will run for a few minutes and then quit. The fuel filter was replaced and line bled to the injector pump. It ran for a few minutes then quit again. Any ideas about how to fix this would be appreciated..It has the Stanadyne pump.

Did you use fuel tank from 1655? I had trouble with sediment bowl screen that was plugged up but if you have good fuel flow to filters that isn't the problem. Greg

See if it will keep running with the two screw timing cover loose allowing fuel to leak out. If so the pump needs serviced, the weight retainer ring is failing plugging the return fitting. Don't keep running or you risk the pins breaking and causing much more damage than you have now.

I had something like that happen once and it was the vent in the fuel cap on the fuel tank was plugged.
But, I would try Dieseltech's idea first. It probably is the plastic ring he is talking about.
They are fairly easy to change. I have a Roosamaster(Stanadyne) service manual that I can fax or email you the pertinent pages for DB pumps

My computer died a few minutes after I posted. Am on a borrowed lap-top now. From the responses I think I will take it to a pump shop this week. Thanks for the help.
