Installed clutch in my Cockshutt 1550

We got the clutch installed in my 1550. The release bearing was seized solid, consequently not much left of the pressure plate fingers. The mechanic that helped do the job insisted on just unbolting the housing at the back of the motor, this tractor has Hydra Power. So we did that & pulled the motor ahead, refaced the flywheel, installed a new release bearing, pilot bearing, clutch disc, & pressure plate, & slid the motor in.. Worked perfect. Of course we pulled the PTO shaft out. everything works perfect.. While the motor was out we installed a power steering motor, at the knuckle on the side of the motor where the shaft s join about a foot from the steering box & a hydraulic ram by the tie rods, & WOW one finger steering now. Will make a huge difference because there is a loader on the tractor..
Again thanks to everyone for your help & suggestions both with the clutch & installing the power steering

Was there enough room to slide the engine forward with the radiator on, or was it off? I should check mine because the clutch pedal spring was missing when I got it. It seems to be OK but that would put the release bearing constantly against the fingers. I just got it running yesterday after rebuilding the whole front axle but there's a lot more to check out. Can I get by with sliding the engine forward to remove the chain coupling? Maybe I should do it while the grill, hood and sides are off.

We took the grill & radiator off. Then we had lots of room
. We pulled the PTO shaft out at the back then put a jack with a block of wood to hold up behind the engine..
Yup good time to do it while your rad & grill are off...

Last thing I have to do today is install a new choke cable & clean the carb... Idles & runs nice at slow speeds, but when I throttle up, it spurts & coughs & powers out. won't stay running to put it into 6th gear, dies out..

You moved the engine forward with out the clutch housing and HP? How did you support that? I got mine started yesterday after six months and let it run with just water and no thermostat to flush it out. Draining it today I noticed a small leak from the head gasket just below No. 2 plug. Mine has power steering but still steers hard. What next?? I'm beginning to think I should have passed this one up.

Yes we unbolted the clutch housing & slid the motor forward & just the pressure plate was visible when the motor came forward. We supported the Clutch housing & HP with a floor jack, & put a long block of wood to support it when we pulled the motor ahead. Worked great, & we didn't have to lift of the housing etc. Would have been real heavy for this old man.. And it went together real nice.. So we just took off the starter pulled all the bolts on the housing, 4 engine mount bolts disconnected a few wires, & out it came. Could have taken the engine right out but didn't need to..
