Transmission fluid for Oliver/White Loader Backhoe

What kind of transmission fluid should I use in my 1550 tractor. Also the hydrostatic transmission is slow to respond and is weak. Any ideas?

I bought a 2-62 (1550) loader and backhoe this summer. I assume you are asking about the reverse o torque? I drained mine and refilled with automatic transmission fluid. Be sure to drain the torque converter and change the filter when you do this. Chris

Yes, same tractor and trans as mine. I was planning to do that and was hoping that it maybe had water or something in it and change fluid and filter would fix the problem but was not sure if it mattered what kind of transmission fluid I used - Type F, Drexon ll, etc...?

I think when new they called for Dextron. Now they have Dextron-Mercon and that's what I run in all the Hydra powers.

I found that on another post and changed everything yesterday but it didn't help, it is still slow to react and is weak. Moves on flat surface but won't back up any incline.

Thanks, but it turned out to be a lot of play in the linkage. It is all old and there was slop at every point. Made new bushing, changed carter pin, added lock screw to shaft and made a spacer to take up slack in the connecting mechanism on the forward and reverse shaft coming out of the pump. Just had to figure it out, the manuals didn't cover any of these possibilities.
