77 Head Bolts

I broke a head bolt when torqueing the head on my "basket case" 77. The dealer priced a new one at 12 bucks. Since the ones that came with it are all the same age I hesitated to go with them and another used one, considering the valve grind gasket set cost $212 and buying that item twice would hurt. I purchased grade 8 bolts that are advertised as "head bolt quality". Should I expect them to stay torqued?

You said: Should I expect them to stay torqued? The key to the torque is how much is the gasket going to compress after you have put some time on the engine using it. The original bolts were also grade 8 bolts. You may want to retorque the head bolts after about 40-50 hours of operations.
