I finished rebuilding my 1550's water pump and went to a nearby parts store for new straight hoses for the water pump and air filter. Three pieces, 12 inches each, $46!!! Should have asked first, I guess.

It seems like a paid about that much per foot at a Gates dealer last spring. All hoses, radiator, fuel or hydraulic hose has taken a pretty good increase the last few years. Hydraulic fittings are up to.
If you want cheaper there is Chinese hose and fittings on the Internet. I have not been able to bring myself to buy anything. Would skimp somewhere else before using Chinese rubber products

While hoses may be expensive, they do last far longer than several decades ago.

Maybe it was partly down to engine mountings, but I remember numerous top and bottom hose failures in my early cars. Not changed more than a heater hose in the past thirty years, as far as I can recall.

Yea. I needed two 3 inch pieces (two different diameters) for a SC Case I'm restoring. They wouldn't sell less than one foot length - one was $17 and the other was $19. I walked out in protest but later went and bought them because what else are you gonna do. I'm doing this project because it makes me happy. Just some days more happy than others.
