Oliver 88 whine in 5th gear

I am looking at a 1952 Oliver 88. Looks to be in pretty good shape, however owner says it has a whine in 5 gear. I have NOT heard it, just what he says. Serious?? Should I be concerned? Normal for the model??? Possible fix?? Any and all suggestions welcome.
THANKS

88's are loud in all gears as they are a spur gear transmission. I don't know if he is trying to say it is louder than it normally should be. Our 88 had the transmission rebuilt back in the mid-1960's shortly after it stopped being the main tillage tractor here.

I'd listen to it before I'd get to excited. My experiance with my tractors, some gears whine more then others and no two tractors whine the same. 77 3rd gear is loudest, super 88 6th gear is loudest and 70 trans hardly whines at all or I just don't notice cause axle bearings are noisey.

Had a neighbor who had two Oliver 77's when farming in the 50's. They both had a lot of whine when working ground. Could hardly hear the engine.

My 1949 Oliver 88 whines in all gears. Been that way from day 1 when my Grandpa bought it new...that's the Oliver whine and why I love that tractor! That's the old girls character!
