Oliver 66 Road Gear Speed

I'm looking at an Oliver 66. My wife loves the 77 and I think she would like a 66 too. I know both of these tractors have a slow top speed and I have never seen a 66 on a tractor drive.

Does the 66 get up to 12 mph or more? The data says 11.4 with 8 x 38 tires. The one I'm looking at has 11.2 x 38 tires - pretty small.

I like Olivers but know little about them. I have only owned Farmalls.

Input is appreciated!

We have one and its slow, I mean slow 10-11mph always last
one on tractor ride, that's why I bought my g1355 and put on
42" rubber so I can do 22-23. Not sure on the tire size, love
the 66 my grandpa bought it new and has never left the family.

O. K> There were two basic ring & pinion set ups for a 66. How about if you get us the serial number for that 66? Then we can tell you the speed.

Well, my 70 does about 20-25mph in 6th with 13.6x38 tires.
Obviously that's not with stock engine speeds, but with stock motor.
As said before it really matters on what your engine speed is and gearing.

Thanks

Mine runs around 11.5 mph. To much work but you could put a standard ring and pinion and gain some speed.

Oliver used 2 different serial number systems on the fleetline models. Before they went to the style you have for thev1953 models they had av2 letter 2 digit code at the end of the serial number that will tell you what ring & pinion gears are in the tactor. What is the serial number of your 77? Does it have the old style serial number. If so what is the code and how does the speed compare to the 66?

It's an online auction. There is no serial plate picture. I could call the guy, but I think I'm going to let this one go. It's getting to pricey for me.

As for the serial numbers for the ring gear, what numbers am I looking for and what means what?
For future reference could somebody clue me in please?

Thanks!
