I am working on a 880 Wheatland. I have a few
questions. Specification numbers are 48 5005
serial number is 87 147 873 what do they mean.
Were these tractors ever painted red, mine has
alot of red showing thru, also red behind serial
tag. What is the trick to get the pto out to work
on two speed. Thank You Kory A IH mans first
Oliver

87 147 is the serial number. 873 is the code for the gear train and it has the helical transmission and is a 1960 model. 48 5005 is the specification number. To remove the PTO you need to remove 7 or 9 bolts depending if the shield is attached. You remove the PTO clutch cover and behind the clutch are 3 - 3/8 inch cap screws. Remove them and get a 3 foot wrecking bar and hook the ear behind the back side of the PTO clutch and give it a quick pop.

Looks like this.
