oliver 66 issues

I have a Oliver 66 that was making a back fire type noise through the front of the carb. It was idling and it all of a sudden bangs and fire very loud. I shut it down. The intake manifold is extremely hot as well as the exhaust manifold. What can possibly be wrong?

Did you have the manifold off recently? They pop back if you have vacuum leaks on the manifold or the carb gasket. Another issue is incorrect valve set or a burnt valve. One last thing is engine timing set way to advanced as well and last but not least the firing order on a couple plugs are out. That's all I can think of without some more info on your behalf. Cody, Maybe the top of the plenum is rusted out allowing exhaust to enter the intake manifold. Chuck

Also check the cap and rotor for any cracks or trace lines.
