Super 55 tranny cover

How hard is it to take off the transmission cover of a 1955 super 55?
Does it come off just like it looks like it would or do a lot of the 3 point parts go through and are hooked to something?
Also there are two big fill plugs on top. one with a dip stick the other opens on top of a gear or syncro or something. I opened the three drain plugs underneath but there is still fluid in the hole with the dip stick. is that hydraulics?
Just got this Oliver. It doesn't run and all the fluid cavities had mass condensation water in them. it has been sitting at least ten years.
Shifter won't go into neutral and I would like to take the cover off and see what all may be damaged inside. it was in neutral when I winched it on the trailer but now seems to only shift gears on the right side.
Thanks for the help, Mitch

Yes comes off exactly like you think it does. No linkeage just take the shifter out first and have chain hoist or a cherry picker to lift it off. Yes the dip stick is hyd, oil. It will give you a birds eye view of all three shifter rails and they are probably just rusted/gunked up rather than damaged . It's a pretty simple gear box. You need a service manual tho.

Thanks for the info
does the hydraulic oil drain out? or does it have to be sucked out?
Are the three drain plugs on the bottom only for the tranny/final drive fluid drain?
Thanks again,
Mitch

The three plugs are just for the final drive. To drain the hydraulics you have to lower the 3 pt., remove the pipe plug located front and right of the operators seat. Install a 1/4in pipe nipple with a tubing or hose. Start the engine and let it run at idle speed until the has been pumped from the system. Stop the engine immediately when the oil ceases to flow from the system and reinstall the pipe plug.

You can get most of the 3 point oil out through the dip stick hole with a suction gun. You will be glad you are working on an Oliver super 55 and not a tractor of that size in any other color!
