995 lug matic ?

Have driven olivers most of my life but really did not get into them until the 60's models had 1900, 1950T 2150, still own and use a 1950T and 2150.

My question is about the 995 with lug matic, the Allison built torque converter behind a 3-71Detriot Diesel engine. I just read about in the "ageless iron almanac".
How well did that setup work, was the torque converter air cooled ?
How did it compare to a Case-o-matic for those of you who have run both.

I seem to remember that the Case-o-matic had a way to lock up the torque converter / fluid coupling for heavy field work, did the lug matic have any similar lock up / lock out system ?

Thanks for any info or stories about the lug matic system, as I never was exposed to it .

My buddy has a 995 lugmatic it's a beast! He used it on the farm and in his construction business for years. It's retired to running tractor pulls now and is a great competitor in the 12000 lb class with me and my 990 gm. I would take it off his hands in a heart beat but it's been in the family since new and won't happen. Duane o.

It's a Allison torque multi stage torque converter with a regular clutch mounted on the back of it. The multi stage will compensate for load and speed so both are working to your advantage. There is no lock up in it. The converter was hollow so you could still have live PTO by the shaft running through the middle of it
