The 580 Cockshutt

(quoted from post at 18:12:14 09/28/14) I can probably help you John.
The only info I have on the 580 is what is contained in the book "Cockshutt: The Complete Story". Is there any way we can get info on The Complete Story of the 580, its design, destruction, disappearance, reappearance, restoration etc :?: :?: :?: :?:
Thanks

Back in 1995 Ivan Macrae, the chief engineer for tractors at Cockshut and inventor of the Live Power Take Off, wrot a book called "My Memorys of Engineering at Cockshutt". He speeaks about the 580 prototyps with planetary gear final drives, shepherd power steering and a power shift. I worked at White Farm in engineereing in 84 and 85 and some of the Cockshutt people who were involved witht he 580 were there and Ivan's account was the same a theirs. The protos were cut up by White. Ther were 2 of them. The 354 int he 570 chassis that was found it exacty that - not a 580 at all. Cecil White told me he remembered working late nights tryin got get the bugs worked out of the 580. Gear noise was one of the issues.
If you ever see a chance to get Ivan's book, it is facinating for a Cockshutt fan!
Regards
Neil
