I took the transmission drain plug out of my super 88 and found a piece of round metal that looks like a button. The top is domed and about 3/4 of an inch around and the back is flat and it looks like it has been sheared off of something. The tractor seems to shift ok. Does anyone have any idea of what this is and what will it hurt. Thanks

Gordey is right. I've seen a few 88 and 880's that have done that. Chances are the crown and pinion are in poor shape along with the bull gears. You need to pull the bull gear cover and assess the damage. I don't know if it's possible to rerivit or not maybe some of the guys on here can answer that.

As was mentioned take the bull gear cover off and inspect everything. In 1960 the process of attaching the ring gear to the carrier was changed from rivets to bolts. You may also need to reverse the bull pinions and bull gears.

I changed to bolts on my Fleetline 88 back in the '70's. Got them from the dealer. The gears looked fine; just the rivets were broken. Guess I caught it in time. Not a big job.
