Hey guys. When using a on oliver top link on the 3 pt, the ones with a c shape claw the ball goes into, do you put the c shape claw facing up or facing down. I had 3 old timers looking at it the other day. One swore it was one way and one swore it was the other. Then they confused each other. We deduced it faces down. This is on an 1850 Oliver. It is the original top link with the tractor and not an aftermarket one.

On our 1800, we placed the C side of the top link on the tractor with the c side up. The link goes on the implement - place your pin through it or the pin to mount your quick hitch.

Like the other poster I use the "c" end toward the tractor ( not enough clearance the other way on some attachments). I don't see why it would make a difference as long as the spring loaded pin that holds the ball is out where it needs to be.

When I use mine it faces down, so it can unhook the ball and be raised up and fastened to the back of the tractor when not in use. John Deere has the same type of top link on the 4020.
