Quick 1850 transmission input shaft question

Is there a snap ring or anything that holds the coupler drive sprocket on the trans input shaft? I know there's a nut on the Hydra-Power,didn't know on the trans input.
The 1550 sits here with the motor out and I know there's nothing on there. I got new sprockets for that and I think I'll put the new chain on that before I put it in and then try to slide the sprocket on the splines.
I have to pull the engine out of the 1850 to put a PTO drive hub in it. I just put a new chain on that less than a month ago and worked up a sweat getting it on. Been thinking about just trying to slide the engine ahead and letting the sprocket come off the splines on that one.

No, the sprocket just slides on and rides wherever it wants to. I know the chain couplers can be a boogger to put on, not sure how easy it would be to line everything back up when going back together. Chris

Don't think so, least there wasn't one on the last one we pulled out. Pretty sure it floats because you can weld a splined sleeve to the sprocket if your input shaft splines ever get too worn.

I'm thinking it'll at least be worth a try. I can always take the chain off and put it together the regular way if I have to.

It's not nearly as bad putting on the chain with the fuel tank out of the way. I think attempting to pull the rear sprocket with the chain might be tough for clearance, and it might bind causing you more effort and sweat than if you had just installed it the usual way.

I took it out that way,but I won't do it again. Not enough clearance with the lines and wires in there. I won't put it back together in one piece.

I just found out today that on the 1855 i bought last fall the PO had pulled the engine out by just unbolting the three speed from the engine and leaving the the 3 speed and the PTO shaft in place.
The shaft is all bend to "ell.
Effen moron :x
