old style 88 governor

Hi guys,
I have a 1948 old style 88 standard that has almost no governor response. I would like to get it working correctly. The governor shaft seems to have a decent amount of slop going into the housing too. It also doesn"t idle down . What parts do I need to order to fix. Also can you explain to me what I need to do to rebuild the governor. I think I heard at one point oliver had an update for this vintage governor, but I am almost 100 percent sure it is all original. Thank for your help.

You probably have enough wear in the governor all the motion that is necessary to make the governor respond it taken up by wear. Take the air cleaner off and remove the governor and clean all the parts and lay them out on a clean bench and we can discuss it. If you think you are going to find a new rotating group and someone has one bring 2 check books and there is a reason for that, it is called "lawers"

when you pull it apart be careful not to drop brass bushing down in timing cover, pull cover off gov. first then remove gear and weights use arm to push cover off leaving gear assembly hanging on block

Is there anything I can do to take out some of this wear you are talking about? What parts usually need to be replaced in these governors? Or are parts not available?
