pto and hydraulics just stopped working while I was bush hogging
what do I need to do to fix it
thanks

I'll bet there was a loud grinding noise wasn't there? The hydraulic pump runs off the PTO long shaft. They're at that age where the splines are wearing off the front of those shafts where they go in to the flywheel. You'll have to pull it out the back and check. Take the tin plug out above the PTO shaft, remover the snap ring, screw a piece of 1/2 inch threaded rod in and pull the plug out. Then take an o-ring pick and get the o-ring out. Screw the threaded rod in to the end of the shaft beyond there and pull it out.
If it didn't sound like the world was coming to an end, then there's likely a different problem, but I don't know what it would be.

Sounds like the splined hub in the flywheel stripped out or you broke the long shaft that drives the hydraulics and pto clutch.
I believe you'll be pulling the long shaft out and then the engine.

I put new shafts in my 1550 and 1850 both because they stripped. I put a clutch in the 1850 last year after I put a new shaft in and the hub was fine. I've got the motor out of the 1550 right now and that hub looks fine too. The shaft is apparently softer than the hub.

Ya, you never know though... It does make sense to harden the hub more than the long shaft. Much easier to just swap the shaft.

For future reference how hard is it to get the long shaft that goes into the flywheel? And can they be rebuilt?[For me 1650 and 1950]
