Got the Over/Under home

$3343 total. I took it out of the tractor and took it to them. They said it was a lot worse inside than anybody thought it was. There was what they called a "clutch cover" on the bill that turned out to be shot. I guess it was the part that the clutch pack slides in to? It would have been $1500 new,but they had another unit out back in a shed, that they had parted and it was good in that one,so they sold me that part for $200. Hard to beat a deal like that.
Now to get that beast back in there and get the splines lined up. They told me to take the rear front axle brace loose from the frame, loosen the bolts up front and put a big jack under it,then jack it up so the brace drops down so the engine slides straight in.
I put a new o-ring on the trunion and greased the daylights out of the inside of the part that slides over it. I figured that would be better than greasing the outside and getting grease on the o-ring for fear it might cause it to swell.

Clutch cover - could be the rear housing that the over drive piston sits in. If that was scored enough from foreign material getting between piston and housing, I suppose it would need to be replaced. Hefty bill but it's probably far cheaper than overhauling a modern power/electronic shift, and it will probably be a long time before you have another problem with it.

Just was wondering how the parts and labor breakdown was? If you do not mind posting. I have two O/Us that I was going to go over for spares or just parting out to keep my other ones going.
Most times it seems the same parts wear out so I am not even sure the spares are good enough to rebuild reasonably.

Hytran. The service manager said the reason they switched was that transmission fluid was too thin and they had problems with bearing failure.

They charged me $550 labor. On a bill that size,I won't complain about that even if you put a gun to my head. There was $43 for "other materials". I'm assuming that was oil, filter and such.

I got it set back in. That was just WAY too easy. Something must be wrong. lol
I set it down in the tub, wiggled it so the two castings started sliding together, the motor mounts were just about to set on the very edge. I put a floor jack under the bell housing with a 2x8 jacked up under it at an angle toward the rear of the tractor. When it let it down and took the slack out of the chains,it pushed back on the 2x8 and when it stopped moving, the motor mount holes were lined right up. We put the bolts in,put a big socket on the front of the motor, put it in gear and turned it with a 3/4 drive ratchet. It started to move the tractor,so I guess it's in there right.
