88 head bolts

I am piecing an 88 engine back together after being apart for 25 years. Plans are to use some M&W domes I have along with 880 valves, a Bullet cam and a 1650 intake. The problem is the head bolts were in a pail that got rain water in it from a leaking roof and they are not pretty. Salvage yards don't save them. I can reuse the hollow bolt and the washers. My question is if I can use 5" long grade 5 or 8 bolts as a replacement or won't they have the right stretch for proper clamping?

If the old bolts are rusty I would buy new ones. See what the recommended torque was for the original engine and compare that to the spec for grade 5 and 8 bolts. If the original is less than a gr 5 then a gr 5 would be ok. If higher go to a Gr8. All grades of bolts stretch the same at the same torque. The higher grades can be torqued to higher torque so can be stretched more.
