White 2-62 Brakes

BUMMER!!! I tried to take the brakes apart on the 2-62 (1550) this evening. The loader frame is very close the the brake housing. I took the lower bolt out, there was a hole in the loader frame for the bolt to go into to remove it. Started on the top bolt, it comes out against the loader frame and stops several inches for coming out. The rear bolt is in the open, no problem getting it out. Someone welded the loader frame to the rear axle, so it isn't coming off even if I had enough jacks and blocks to try to take it off. Anyone ever done brakes on one of these with a loader and backhoe on it? I'm wondering it I took the platform off if I could leave the top bolt in and turn the outside cover to the top and get the brakes apart that way? I think the seal is leaking on this one, everything outside is soaked with oil. Also, there is no transmission filter on this tractor, did the industrials not have a filter on the rear end?
This computer isn't letting me upload pictures tonite. If someone want to post them, I'll e-mail them to you.

If your 2-62 is like my 1550 utility taking that battery box off is a pain but can be done. You should be able to take the battery box off and turn the outer cover on the brake up to get into the brake system to work on it. Hear is a picture or 2 so you can see how it looks, I had to take mine off to work on the brakes to have enough room to work. The 1550s never had a filter on the transmission so no problem there but you will need to drain the transmission down to put the seals in the brake housing. Oh while your in there I would check the springs to make sure there good and take them off and clean the balls and the inside housing good so they move freely. Its hard enough to do this and you don't want to do it again. If you need more info just let us know and we'll help you out. Bandit

I need to add this, If you look at the second picture the back inside battery box brace it right up and against the adjuster for the brakes and it had to come off to get the wrenches and sockets on the adjusting nuts for the brakes to get them loose. Knew I forgot something. Bandit

Thanks, I'll give that a try and let you know, maybe pictures will work by then. Chris

I've got a 2-78 loader, 4-78 forklift, and had a 1600 backhoe. Someone on the backhoe ran into the same problem. 2 bolts come out easily. Their answer was to torch a slot onto the cover for the bolt that can't be removed. The cover would then rotate up and slide off the slot. Ugly but it beat removing the whole assembly.
