Cockshutt 50D stalling problem

I need some advise on a stalling problem I have with my 50 diesel. It has the Buda 273 with the American bosch injection pump.I've owned the tractor for 25 years and only use it for pulling 6-8 times a season. It has always had a problem starting if I get it up to normal operating temp, shut it down and try to restart it in a minute or 2.It will crank real good but won't fire as if it isn't getting any fuel, plus there will be no smoke coming from the exhaust stack. If I coast start it,it will start up,I assume because it cranks the engine over faster. If I let it sit for 10 minutes and cool,it will fire right up with the starter.I have turned the pump up some to get max hp from it.If I turn it up past the max hp point a few turns,it will start right up with the starter even if warm, then I turn it back to pull.
Now this year it shut down on it's own after idling on an 80 degree day for about 20 minutes while I was warming it up to pull.I know it never got above 160 degrees.I had to get a pull to start it and after a few try's it sputtered and came to life.It never skipped, just kept trying to cut out a stall.I didn't have to bleed the injectors,it smoothed out on it's own after I ran it at half + throttle for about a minute. Then I pulled with it and it ran perfect.
Then today while waiting in line to pull my second class it began to cut out and would have stalled again but since I was sitting on it I throttled it up to keep it running.I made my pull with excellent power then shut it down.I restarted it ten minutes later for another pull and again it ran perfect.Nether the pump or injectors have been off the tractor since I've owned it and maybe never before that. All filters have been recently replaced.Since it seems to loose pump pressure at idle when warm,I've been thinking a pump and injector service may be in order but have put it off since it still makes 60 hp on a dyno.I'm hoping someone may have had a similar issue and can give me some advice on whether I need to spend some money on a pump/injector overhaul. If it would cure all these problems and maybe give me a few mores horses too I'm all for it.

Rotary pump? If so likely too much clearance (wear) in the pumping head, exacerbated as temperature increases.

You could try chucking a bucket cold water over the pumping section when it will not start when hot. If it starts up easily, on cooling it, that would somewhat confirm the dignosis.

I was debateing if I should send you an e-mail and I still may. Rich (RAB) pointed outsome key items. Now for dumb guys like me, does your tractor have a BOSCH PSB or an APE injection pump? so we need a complete model number of the pump to start with. Also don't be pulling the pump off yet.

The Pump is a Bosch PSB and it does have a round head with the injector lines attached in a rotary patten on the top.Would this make it the rotary style? I can get the exact numbers off it tomorrow as I keep it at my business garage. The cold water on the head Idea sounds like a good test.I'll do that tomorrow as well and give you the results.
I also have a model 40 diesel Cockshutt I used to pull with.It was in pretty rough shape so I turned it into a parts tractor to restore my current 50 with.It also has a Buda with the same style pump that had the same warm start issues.I can get around the starting thing by knowing when to shut it off and when it will start but now the stalling out thing tells me it's getting worse. Also I've suspected at least one poor injector as it's always skipped and runs rough for a few moments on it's first start of the day. After a minute or two, depending on the temps,it will smooth out and run on all 6 like a champ.I realize all things point to a fuel system overhaul but it's always ran real good when it needs to so I've put it off until probably now.I don't want to waste money but I do like have things work as they should.Thank you both for your interest and advice.

Does it have the fuel pump on the side of the injection pump?If so I solved the starting problem with the same setup on a Case 500D by putting an electric fuel pump in line that would go up to about 30lbs pressure. The fuel needs to have pressure when it goes into the injection pump to work right.

I tried to recreate the hot start issue and after some time on a dyno to warm it up,the ole girl starts as it should(of course).I even let it idle for 1/2 hour and I couldn't get it to stall out.Temps are about 70 out which is about 10-15 degrees cooler then when it has bothered.I think I'll keep a jug of water near by for the next time it does bother.
My injection pump does have the small pressure pump on the side that supply's fuel to the injection pump head.I did put an electric transfer pump on my other pulling tractor,a Cockshutt 570 Super. It's pump was rebuilt a few years ago but a fellow 570 puller told me it helped him??? The pump I have only puts out about 10psi.I think changing all the filters on this tractor, adjusting the valves and adding the pump helped. Before I could lug it to just 75 hp and that was it.Now it will go up to about 78 and my PTO will start slipping long before the engine is done.Feels much stronger on the track too.Now I'll have to fix the PTO to do further testing.
