Looking at a 1949 77 RC. What size mower will it handle to mow pastures. Some of the pastures stay wet and get 12-16" before it drys enough to mow.
I think its a fair deal, been in the family since new, older restoration with mis matched rears, newer fronts hasn't been worked in 25+ years. just sits in the barn and gets started and driven around a couple three times a year. I know the family and they are asking $1200.00

What kind of mower sickle, bushhog, etc? A 77 has live PTO that is nice with any mower. Does it have hydraulics?

Bushhog mower. Yes it has hydraulics. In its day it had a mounted corn picker on it and it pulled hay wagons.

Never operated a 77, but I would think it would easily handle a 5', handle a 6' in almost all conditions, and maybe even handle a 7' in some real light stuff. (I am assuming pull type bushog).

If it were mine: I would go 5' or 6'. If mower is to be 3 point style then I would likely lean towards 5' as those older tractors get light in the front with aftermarket 3 point hitch kits on em. (I own Farmall h and farmall M both with aftermarket 3 point hitches on them. My 5' bushog makes the front on both noticeably lighter when you have the bushog in the air). If mower is to be of pull type then either 5' or 6' would be okay.

Price on that tractor sounds real good to me (especially since you know its history).

Width of cut versus tractor width might be important? No point in running over the next cut.

If flat pastures, I would think it should manage to cut its tread width set at minimum.

I have a 6 foot bush hog on a 77. it will pull it pretty easy in light grass. have to gear down to 1st some times in heavy and or wet grass but it has always pulled it. sounds like a fair price.

$1200 sounds like a fair price. Tires are a high percentage of the value of those older tractors. Try to get the engine side panels if they are available, they are spendy.

It's handy to have a mower wide enough to cover your wheel tracks and as wide as the ends of the rear axles. You can cut closer to fences and buildings without the axles hitting things. In tough conditions you can always take a partial swath or cut a little high and re-mow it after the cut material has dried.

It sounds like a nice tractor, enjoy!

Not sure of the width tip to tip on the axels but Td list rear width around 92" max. Don't know if it would handle something that wide. I will measure next time i go down. It has the side panels on it and extra centers and everything to mounts duals on the rear except tires. Thanks to everyone for all the helpful information.

I use a fleetline 66, 3 3/4 pistons and mow road banks, around bldgs., etc with a 7 ft SERVIS rotary mower, 1st and 2nd gear, but also have 13.6x38's supposed to be 11.2x38's 1st gear is about 3 MPH.
