HELP! 88 Cant shift from Top Range to Bottom Range

Just Got an 88 Running and saved it from the scrap pile! Started driving it around, and noticed it doesnt want to shift to the bottom range. Is this common? Where should I start? Thanks Oliver friends.

In neutral does the gear shift center its self, if not spring in tower broke or missing, if centered bump it with palm of your hand, should go through from top to bottom neutral, may be something else wrong down inside.

Not sure but the shift lever might have jumped out of the detent. That happened a couple times on our 77. Once it went back in place by moving the shift lever but another time I think dad had to take off the shift lever.

If you just got it,I'd say somebody has had the shift out of it and put it back in the wrong slot. I've put one or two back in wrong myself.
