Super 55 injection pump timing

I am working on rebuilding the engine for my 1957 Super55d and am now installing the injection pump. My IT manual says to check the timing marks on the flywheel as there was a running change from 23* to 26* BTDC for the firing point (FP) mark. There is a measurement from the TDC mark to the FP mark of 2-1/2" for the old 23* setting and 2-27/32" for the revised 26* (correct) timing. My flywheel TDC to FP measures at 2-21/32", not close to either. The marks appear to be factory original, there is also a "INT" mark at 25/32" from the TDC mark. The engine has been apart for 10 years after losing a rod so I don't remember where it was timed.

Does anyone have some incite on the best and correct timing setting ?

I guess I need to get a book out and look! Have you done the screw driver test on the injection pump to make sure the plunger in the pump is not tied up? do this before you kiss $1000.00 GOOD-BY!

I don't know if this will help any. This is out of the Oliver shop
manual.

"Check the timing of the pump to the engine. Turn the engine
over slowly until the No. 1 piston is again raising on its
compression stroke and the pointer at the flywheel is in line with
FP mark on the flywheel. Now check the injection pump drive
coupling marker to be sure it is in line with the pointer on the
housing as seen through the plug opening. If they are aligned,
the pump is properly timed. If they are not, it will be necessary
to remove the pump drive gear cap screws and turn the pump
shaft with respect to the drive gear, inserting the two cap screws
again in the new hole alignment and tighten them.

Install a locking wire between the two drive coupling cap screws
after tightening."

Here is a description of the fly wheel marks under the engine
section.

According to the chart the Super 55, Fleetline 77, and 66 usded
flywheel number 1M-135

"Super 55 tractors tje 1M-135 Flywheel, exception to this are the
Super 55 diesel tractors serial numbers 6 000-500 to 8 291-500
which used the 1MS-135-A flyhweel assembly. This is the same
assembly as used on the Fleeetline 77 Diesel tractors which has
the firing point (FP) mark stamped on the flywheel at 23 degrees
before top dead center instead of 26 degrees BTDC for 2000 rpm
engines as stamped on the 1Ls-135-C Flywheel Assembly. To
relocate the timing mark on these tractors, measure 11/32 inch
clockwise from the 23 degree FP mark ans stamp a new 1/2 inch
long mark on the flywheel with the letters FP beside it. Remove
the old mark by peening or filing."
