77 with ford engine

I recently acquired an Oliver 77. It had originally been a diesel but the previous owner put a straight six Ford engine-- I think it's a 240 engine from maybe a late 60's Falcon-- Any thoughts on how this engine will compare for power with the original?

The 77 was built from 48 to 54 with a 193.9 cube gas or diesel engine, with a 3 5/16 bore and 3 3/4 stroke. Rated speed was 1600 rpm. The ford 240 is 4" bore and 3 3/16 stroke. Max torque is at 2200 rpm. So the ford is running at less than optimal speed, however it likely has a higher compression ratio, so I would think it would be close to that of the original engine.

Show us a picture of the tractor and engine. The 240 was only used in full size Ford cars and pickup trucks. It would be a much better change if it would happen to be a 300.

I'll get a picture posted when I get it home-- (it is a little rough-- a project-- )just guessing that it is a 240. What is better about a 300?

The 300 is the same as the 240 except it has a longer stroke at 3.98" rather than 3.18 inches. It would be better for the low speed operation of the tractor.
