Late 1650 Injector Pump Issue.

I have a late 1650 diesel that started slowing down and quit as I was driving down a county road. It would start back up and could run at any speed desired, for about 50', then slow down and quit again. Closer to home, it got worse. I did my research here and it seems to be a common issue. I only had to drive 1/2 mile so it was not very long.

Where is one of the better, but still reasonable, shops to have it rebuilt? I am in mid-south Indiana. It has about 25 hours on a rebuild done back in 2007 but has only been used for snow blade and wood splitter, nothing hard.

I would try replacing the fuel filters first. It"s a lot cheaper than having the pumped worked on. You want to also verify the lift/transfer pump is working. While you are at it check the engine oil for diesel in it.

It is the governer ring breaking down. We had to do two of them in 2 months. If you want to know for sure take the two screws off the side cover and see if any black rubber comes out with the fuel. We had Stones Farm Service in Greensburg do ours and thought is was reasonable.

After a funeral last Friday, another friend died Monday so another funeral coming up. Then Monday evening, I cut a finger pretty deep so I did not want to mess with diesel fuel and dirt. I finally got to town and picked up some rubber gloves and pulled the little plate off the injector pump. Sure enough, it had a bunch of trash in there. I will be taking the pump off later this week. I am going to call Stone's later today and see what their schedule and price is like.
