Removing Hydrapower unit in 1555

How do you remove the long shaft that goes through the hydrapower unit in a 1555, we are replacing the sprockets and chains in this tractor, thanks again.

Remove the square plate/cover above the PTO stub.
insert a fitting bolt in the plug and pull it out, the long shaft is behind it and can be pulled out with a long bolt or piece of threaded rod screwed in the shaft.
There could be a C clip in there as well(can't remember)

Is it single speed pto? If it is take bolts out of pto cover unhook linkage and remove. You will see pto clutch in front of that is a flange with 3 3/8 bolts use open end wrench to remove. Then pull pto clutch out. May have to pry and wiggle on it a little bit. Its pretty easy once you have done it a couple times. Hope this helps. Greg

Thank you guys for your help, I don't know if it is a single speed PTO or not but I'll look tomorrow.

Years ago my dad went to install clutch in our 1555 without pulling pto out and it got a slight bend in it that caused vibration in pto. If you can post picture of your pto cover we can tell you which one it is. Greg

when you are talking about pto cover is it at the rear of the tractor where the pto is, does this long shaft from the engine clutch slide out the rear of the tractor? I'm confused this is my 1st Oliver.

Ok Greg that's what happened today my son was trying to get the hydrapower unit out, the engine is already out of tractor, and the shaft got bent a little so we'll take it to the machine shop and hopefully get it straightened, we are putting a new engine in this tractor and it needed the chain and sprockets replaced, I think mine is a single 540 pto

The 1555 has 2 different clutch packs for the pto, One is dry clutch (used on early models) second is a wet clutch . Both come out the same way, There is a 3 bolt flange behind the clutch pack, Take the 3 3/8 bolts out and use a pry bar against the housing and the 4 bolt flange on the back of the clutch pack. Be careful as the 3 bolt flange is cast and will brake easy. It takes some wiggling to get it out and it can be a pain but not to bad.

The pictures show a dry clutch pack with the pto shaft cut off but still in the pack, Second one is what the shaft looks like without the clutch pack in the tractor and you can see the 3 bolt flange that you have to take the bolts out to pull the long shaft out, It also shows the 4 bolt flange that you pry on to get it out. Hope this helps. Bandit

It's the cast cover on the back that the linkage from the PTO lever goes in to. If it has a shield, take that off, then there are 4 bolts that go up in from the bottom, take a 9/16th wrench. Unhook the linkage from the lever and take those 4 bolts out. Then as Greg says, take out those 3 bolts in the cast flange behind the clutch pack. You might have to tap an old screwdriver or something between the flange and casting, but once it pops loose, just pull the clutch and shaft out. There's a gasket in there I think,so be careful not to drive anything too deep. The shaft will be close to 5 feet long. Just pull it,nothing will fall out.

Thank you guys so much this helps I didn't know why the shaft wouldn't come out the front of tractor but now this makes sense, like I say it's my 1st Oliver like this so we'll get it figured out and thanks again so much to you guys for the help.
