1965 oliver 1650 diesel surges?

Have a 65 oliver 1650 diesel last few days it surges when running it gains about 300rpm on the tach and then goes back to normal, I have changed the fuel filter, no need to tell me that.

Mosly notice when running the haybine its like surge of power and then back again. Any Ideas of where to look? Thanks,

First thing I would check is the fuel lines at the tank and in and out of the filters for a bad rubber grommets on the fuel line that get old and fall apart. They look like compression fittings but it has a rubber grommet inside that tightens up on the line and seal it. If bad it will let it suck some air then get fuel and get that surge. My 1550 diesel did the same thing last year and it was the rubber grommet on the line coming out of the first filter that was bad. I think there about .50 each so cheep fix. Bandit
