Have a question regarding serial numbers and build build dates for Oliver 440's
Stopped by to see a guy that deals in tractors and such on the way home today. He had a 440 he had recently bought still on the trailer. The serial was 122-344. Told him it looks to be a late 1962 but had no ideal how late. Does anyone have a link to a table that shows the range of serial number by year for 440s? Also did Oliver just document the start serial number for the year and was not consecutive with the serial numbers for a particular model.

Heres a couple pictures of it setting on the trailer.

Thanks.........

Years ago it was said that there were 500 built in 1960 and 200 model 440's built in 1962 for a total of 700 tractors. At the time I had one built 1962.

Sometime later I had the chance to go through the build cards and there were, in fact, 200 built in late June and early July 1962. Without looking up my notes I know that is near the last one. I know the last one was shipped to California.

Thanks for the info.

Would you happen to know what the last SN build in 1962 was?

Also did the number the builds consecutively or did they skip around in the numbering.

Again thanks for the info.

The serial numbers skipped around. The serial numbers were issued each week according to production scheduling. For example, they might reserve 80 numbers for 440's and the next 300 numbers for 1800's, etc. The next week they would start with the next set of numbers. With the serial numbers mixes in among different model tractors, it is hard to figure out how many of each were built.

When I get time I will try to look up the last number.

The last Oliver 440 built was serial number 122-542 built on or about July 12, 1962.

Thank you for the information. I'll send him this link. Does look like it on of the later ones built but no simple way to tell how late.

He has probably 6 or so S44s and 440s setting around counting the parts one he has. Don't know much about them since I grew up in a Farmall family. He has a parts 77 with cultivators and a really cool looking parts Standard 70. Really like that streamline styling of that Standard 70.

thanks for the help

The 440 was only made in one run in 1960. About 770 ish were produced.

This was the table I based my best guess from from this site.

Year Starting Serial Number

1960 85725

1961 103779

1962 121833
I know production numbers were low, but this "was" big time row crop tobacco growing area in the past. So my guess alot of the were purchased for tobacco farming. Since this was the money crop in this area decades.

Can find several tables listing starting Serial Numbers for the year but not reference to number of units or serial number range for a particular year.
