Oliver 770 always starts good and runs good. However, lately it wants to start hard...that is, I pull out the choke as usual, but when I put the choke button back in, It wants to die.. Runs with it choked. If I pull open the throttle, it wants to die. What is going on here. Carb problem?.
It sits a lot, but I keep it maintained.
Analyze what is going on here......

Id check first by removing the fuel line at the sediment bowl. If gas pours out fast shut tap off and try the line up to the carb. If its good there its time to clean the carb out. There is one small jet at the very bottom of the carb which effects idle it fills up with crap and wont idle unless choke is on. But since you say it dies at higher rpm id say sediment bowl is plugged from tank to carb. One other thing too is gas cap vent may be plugged as well. Hope that will get you running smooth again. Just seems like it could do with a little more maintence and a good tune up.

Spark, timing, contact points, valve lash, fuel filtering, carb setting, plugs, etc.

How about taking the drain plug out of the bottom of the carburetor and see how fuel runs out after the bowl empties.
Good flow I would do the previously mentioned suggestions.

If you are using gas with ethanol in it and it sits for any lenght of time it might need a carb cleaning. It gums up and goes bad within six months. At least here down south,it also draws water into the tank.Probably because of our high humidity.
