1650 sleeve breakage

About to re-assemble a 1650 with 3 7/8 bore sleeves. Got this with one busted sleeve, replaced it and it broke 3 sleeves after 1 1/2 hrs. Have had everything checked out. Both head and deck are flat, counterbores are proper depth, sleeve stand off is .0025. Everything magna fluxed for cracks. Old dealer and mechanics have no idea why they broke. Had 3 guys tell me it was due to wrong size fire rings in the head gasket. Standard gasket if fire rings were removed would fall through the counterbore. Gasket set I have now fits the counterbore. I figure I might as well re-assemble and see if they work. Anyone ever have this problem ? Any new ideas to check before I commit myself ?

On previous post here with sleeves being cracked..head gasket..seem to be the cause...yes the fire ring...would be my guess...you can do a search here and read old posts on this problem..

I like Fel-pro gaskets. Never have a problem with them. They are OEM for John Deere, Cummins, etc. What brand gasket are you using?

CAS, the original was agco, this one is a advantage auto parts. The main difference is the fire ring. This one has a larger diameter fire ring and fits the counter bore. The old one fits inside the counter bore. I've had 3 claims this is what makes the difference, all the machinists I've talked to say it shouldn't account for a sleeve breaking.
