Turbo install

I"ve posted earlier asking the best way to add some power to my Cockshutt 570 Super Diesel.I got some good advice on little tricks but am thinking it"s time to add some real power, the kind a turbo could give.I only use it for pulling and since I am running cut tires,I now have to run in the enhanced class due to recent rule changes. The 339 Hercules is stock other the having the pump turned up to achieve a max of 82 hp and a less restrictive air intake. The problem is I"m constantly running a close 2nd and third place(often 1-2 ft) behind tractors with 2-3 times the power.I hate to give up my cut tires(Firestone radials)as they really bite up on the tracks we have here and are keeping me close with great traction in spite of running less then half as fast. Also the tractor is one year to new to run stock antique class.Although I"ve been told the PSB Bosch pump I have might limit the full potential a turbo can give,it does provide much more then the stock engine can use as indicated by a drop in hp if I turn it up any more.Plus I"m getting PLENTY of black smoke when it"s under full load now.The engine and complete fuel system has had a recent overhaul so I know it"s healthy.I tried running the rpm"s up to 2400 but got no gains except for a surging governor so I turned it back to 2100.Has anyone got any info as to the best turbo to use, safe boost level and anything else that might help me out,or know someone who might know.I realize some fab work will be needed and I"ll have to spend some money but it"ll be worth it if I can give these guys a little more scare once in awhile. Thanks in advance for any help

I'd say something is wrong some of super's turned 90 p.t.o. h.p. from the factory.I suspect you may be a tooth out of time on the pump, mine was and ran good but smoked black when worked hard.timed little smoke much more power.

It has been a long time since I timed my Super 55
diesel but I remember having to move the line front
one tooth also. I wonder why a line is there but at
the wrong place for proper timing?

I won't be able to offer advice concerning the robustness of that engine's head gasket or bottom end, but I can offer a starting point for a turbo.
I would look for a HY35 off a 2001-2002 Dodge diesel pickup, 339 isn't too far way from 359. Should be cheap, alot of people take them off in good shape. Should have a tight enough exhaust to spool it on the 339.

Out of time pump would be great.I did have it off some time ago and took great care to install it correctly but I sure hope I didn't get it right.A pump re-time is pretty cheep power. The thick black smoke starts getting bad when I do a HP check on the dyno at pto speed as soon as it gets to 60HP and worse at 80HP.If I turn the pump down a turn I loose HP but the smoke is still bad.If I turn it up any more,HP goes down and smoke really can't get any worse.I think I'll monkey with the timing a bit even if it appears to be correct to see what happens as was the case with the Oliver 55.Thanks for all the info

If you and I are talking about the same line the main purpose of that line is to use as a reference to disassemble and reassemble the pump and to use as a reference point so you know you are on number one cylinder instead of number 4 or 6.
